About Jane

As a Transition Coach and Narrative Coach Certified Practitioner, I assist clients to transform through times of change, helping them identify what matters most to them and how to shape and sustain a new direction.

Transitions happen everywhere to everyone. They are not always straightforward to navigate even when sought, like a new job, retirement or moving house. Lots of transitions we don’t seek, such as the loss of a relationship or loved one; going from being physically able to having ongoing pain; working to not working; chronic illness.

During my 35 years as a Physiotherapist, I had the privilege to hear countless life stories. Working with clients experiencing physical discomfort and injury and in some cases, chronic pain, I know how thoughts and emotions impact an individual's perception of pain and how pain impacts thoughts and emotions. Managing physical challenges, improving fitness and strength, and challenging unhelpful beliefs about pain and ability, can give people back their zest for life. 15 years of teaching Pilates has taught me about resilience and capacity and the intimate connection our physical health has to our whole wellbeing.

Advances in neuroscience research have significantly changed the way we understand physical pain as well as the factors that impact our emotions, thoughts, behaviour and motivation. The brain’s capacity for developing new connections and changing the wiring of neural pathways (neuroplasticity) means that we now know things aren’t necessarily fixed or stuck in a certain way. There is so much hope for finding a different path.

In 2014, while studying Positive Psychology and Wellbeing through the Langley Group, I was introduced to Coaching and so began a new journey and a natural progression from my physiotherapy work.

After completing the Brain Based Coaching Certificate with the Neuroleadership Institute, I was introduced to Narrative Coaching - the work of Dr David Drake. This has profoundly shaped the way I work. Briefly, its philosophy is to work with clients and their stories, liberating real shifts in thinking and perspective in order to support meaningful change and action.

Through my love of bushwalking and long distance hiking, I discovered for myself that I was capable of much more than I’d realised. Being out on the trail has lead me to see that there are many parallels between the physical travelling from place to place and the personal transformation of a Coaching journey. A powerful way to get unstuck and move towards what is most important. And through a developing practice of living mindfully I know that it is possible to let unhelpful storylines go.

I understand the challenge of changing course and the level of support that is sometimes needed in order to find the confidence to back yourself and own a particular choice. Coaching can provide that support and I am passionate about helping my clients navigate a new path towards wholehearted living.
