Is coaching for me?

Struggling to find a meaningful way to live and be after loss?

Loss of a relationship or death of a loved one is a shattering time and it takes a long period for that acute distress to soften into something easier to bear. Everything can lose its meaning and colour and the prospect of feeling any level of joy again can seem the remotest of possibilities. Coaching is not bereavement counselling but at the right time, can be the support needed to begin to step into this new unsought life as it is and could be, despite it not being the one you may ever have envisaged

Want change but can’t find the path to more joy, energy and engagement?

There are times in life when you know deep down that things need to change but the prospect is scary and the path so shrouded in mist that it seems easier to settle for what is rather than embrace the unknown. Coaching can help bring clarity to what’s not working right now and what needs to shift in order to clear the way.

Ready to stop letting pain define you? ( or tired of letting pain define you?)

Persistent pain is sometimes debilitating and very draining. Despite great advances in neuroscience, many people still don’t understand that the brain is where all pain (acute and chronic, physical and emotional) is generated despite it being felt in the body. That pain serves as an alarm system for alerting us to danger so we take affirmative action to avoid or limit injury. But sometimes things go awry and the brain keeps sending messages to the body to say there’s danger long after the tissues have healed, when a particular activity, or thought of that activity actually now poses no threat. Stories and beliefs around pain can be very powerful and help perpetuate this distressing state. Confidence can take a battering and loss of capacity can make life feel significantly diminished. What I’m offering is an exploration of alternate ways to live with, more hopefully manage and often overcome the limitations imposed by misconceptions and misunderstanding of the pain state and to find ways to reengage with a meaningful and valuable life. I work to support the medical profession, clinical physiotherapists and other health professionals to facilitate change to stories around pain and help find a new narrative that gives hope and new purpose to living.

Wanting to change something at work or the work itself?

Feeling trapped in a job that’s not fulfilling or struggling with aspects or relationships with colleagues can make for an energy sapping work life. It can be scary to have difficult conversations or to contemplate a change. Coaching can help you get clear as to how you might address the difficult aspects of a work situation or possibly the confidence to change that job altogether. I am not a careers advice counsellor so I can’t make suggestions about what might suit, but together we can explore your strengths, where your passions lie, what resources you have and what might need to happen in order to bring about a satisfying shift. I myself have changed career paths so I know how scary it is. But I also know how, with the right support, it has been possible to challenge the stories that no longer serve me and find new ones that have supported me to move in new direction.

In your late 20’s/30’s and can’t find your north star?

Moving from early adulthood into one’s 30s can be a confusing and confronting time. For many, finding a career or life direction hasn’t settled on them yet or perhaps the direction they’ve chosen hasn’t delivered.  Somehow there’s an expectation that you should have your act together by now. Maybe you’ve been in a long term relationship but not sure that you still share the same values or want the same things and not sure what to do about that. Maybe you’re not in a relationship but all your friends are partnering up, having children and finding that a difficult scenario to navigate. I find this a wonderful age group to work with and such an important time to define those core values, one’s purpose and what is most important now and going forward.

Daunted by the prospect of returning to work after a hiatus?

Returning to walk after a significant break can be scary. Being out of the workforce can affect your confidence especially as processes and technology can move on so quickly. Maybe you’ve taken time out to raise a family, maybe you’re returning to work after being injured, maybe circumstances require you to change the way you’ve worked before. Coaching can help you rebuild your confidence to take the necessary steps towards kickstarting the next phase of your working life.
